Position: National Demand & Allocations Planner
Job Department: Business Planning
Reports to: National Demand Planning Manager
Position Summary:
The Demand & Allocations Planner is responsible for developing accurate demand forecasts and determining optimal product distribution to retail locations to maintain inventory levels that drive sales and prevent stockouts. This role combines forward-looking demand planning with executional allocation responsibilities.
This is accomplished through analysis of historical sales trends, demand drivers, and market performance of each SKU across stores, as well as evaluation of upcoming promotions, seasonality, and new product introductions. The planner leverages advanced analytics and tools to both forecast demand and allocate product to stores on a daily or weekly basis.
The role serves as a key link between supply, inventory, and store performance, ensuring alignment between forecasted demand, distribution center availability, and store-level inventory targets. The planner will regularly communicate insights and performance against KPIs to senior management and provide recommendations to improve forecast accuracy, service levels, and inventory productivity.
Responsibilities:
Demand Planning
- Develop and maintain demand forecasts using historical sales data, trends, seasonality, and promotional inputs
- Incorporate business intelligence such as marketing plans, product lifecycle changes, and external factors into forecast assumptions
- Monitor forecast accuracy and bias, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions
- Partner with retail operations, marketing, and supply chain teams to align on demand drivers and forecast assumptions
- Support S&OP processes by providing demand insights and contributing to consensus forecasts
- Determine methods to address and correct planning behaviors that adversely affect forecast accuracy, service, and inventory position
Allocations & Inventory Management
- Execute daily/weekly allocations to a set list of stores to optimize in-stock rates and maximize sales
- Ensure appropriate inventory levels across store locations based on forecasted demand and defined par levels
- Add new stores to allocation plans and ensure proper inventory flow during openings
- Add new products and coordinate allocations with planned launch dates
- Assist in determining ideal initial launch quantities based on sales trends of similar products and forecasted demand
- Model product flow and proactively identify risks such as shortages or excess inventory
Analytics & Reporting
- Create and maintain advanced spreadsheets and analytical tools to optimize store inventory and forecast accuracy
- Analyze sales performance, inventory levels, and demand trends to inform planning decisions
- Maintain and present key performance metrics, including forecast accuracy, in-stock rates, and service levels
- Provide regular reporting and insights to senior management on demand trends and allocation effectiveness
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Act as subject matter expert on both demand planning and allocation processes
- Partner with planning manager, supply chain analysts, merchandising, and data teams to drive alignment and improvements
- Provide feedback to stakeholders on ideal store stock levels, product performance, and demand signals
- Collaborate with distribution and supply planning teams to balance demand with supply constraints
Continuous Improvement & Ownership
- Cultivate an environment of continuous improvement with an emphasis on collaboration and personal ownership
- Identify opportunities to improve forecasting models, allocation logic, and planning processes
- Support process standardization and automation initiatives where applicable
Other Requirements
Must be able to pass a Level 2 background screening
Required Education and Experience
- Degree in business, marketing, or a related field preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in inventory management, product line management, new product integration, or related experience preferred.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and supply chain management.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and material management systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
