QA Lead - HRIS

 

Position Summary
The QA Lead - HRIS is responsible for leading quality assurance efforts across HRIS initiatives, with a primary focus on SuccessFactors and related HR systems, integrations, and processes. This role provides day-to-day QA leadership while remaining hands-on in planning, test design, execution oversight, defect management, release support, and stakeholder communication. The QA Lead - HRIS ensures testing is aligned to business requirements, delivery timelines, compliance expectations, and operational readiness, while helping build a consistent, scalable, and high-quality QA practice across the HRIS domain.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day QA activities for HRIS projects, enhancements, defects, and releases, ensuring work is prioritized and executed in alignment with business needs and delivery commitments.
  • Develop and maintain QA strategies, test approaches, test plans, and test cases for HRIS functionality, integrations, and downstream impacts.
  • Review requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and technical changes to identify risks, clarify gaps, and ensure test coverage includes positive, negative, edge, regression, and end-to-end scenarios.
  • Oversee and contribute to manual testing execution for HRIS modules, integrations, and business workflows, ensuring high-risk and complex areas receive appropriate focus.
  • Ensure defects are identified, documented, prioritized, linked appropriately, and retested through resolution, with clear evidence and reproducible steps captured in Azure DevOps.
  • Monitor ticket and testing status to ensure work items accurately reflect real-time progress, blockers, execution results, and readiness for completion.
  • Partner closely with business analysts, developers, HRIS stakeholders, project managers, and delivery leads to resolve issues, validate fixes, and support successful releases.
  • Support CAB and release readiness activities by providing QA status, risk assessments, sign-off recommendations, and clear communication of open issues or dependencies.
  • Drive consistency in QA processes, workflows, naming conventions, documentation standards, and Definition of Done across the HRIS QA team.
  • Track and communicate testing progress, quality risks, defect trends, and execution outcomes to stakeholders, including leadership, in a concise and actionable manner.
  • Mentor and guide HRIS QA team members by assigning work, reviewing quality of output, reinforcing expectations, and supporting development of testing skills and domain knowledge.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, test optimization, and increased efficiency across planning, execution, reporting, and collaboration.
  • Collaborate with automation resources to identify repeatable HRIS scenarios suitable for automation and help shape longer-term automation coverage for the domain.
  • Support onboarding and knowledge transfer for new QA resources by documenting processes, tools, environments, business context, and ways of working.
  • Ensure test evidence, execution results, and QA artifacts are maintained in the appropriate systems and repositories to support traceability, auditability, and team continuity.

 

Additional Duties

  • Work closely with HRIS functional and technical teams to understand configuration changes, data flows, integrations, and business process impacts.
  • Partner with business users and SMEs during planning, execution, and UAT to ensure testing aligns with real-world HR operations and expected outcomes.
  • Participate actively in Agile ceremonies, planning sessions, backlog refinement, standups, retrospectives, and release discussions as the QA voice for HRIS.
  • Raise blockers, timeline concerns, scope risks, and dependency issues early, with clear recommendations and next steps.
  • Help maintain and evolve HRIS QA documentation, onboarding materials, team guidance, and operational references.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the work of HRIS QA analysts and testers across assigned initiatives and support work.
  • Provide day-to-day direction on priorities, test scope, execution approach, and defect follow-up.
  • Review team output for completeness, clarity, and adherence to QA standards and expectations.
  • Support coaching, training, feedback, and ongoing development of team members.
  • Promote a collaborative, accountable, and quality-focused team environment.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of QA methodologies, test design techniques, defect management, and release readiness practices.
  • Experience testing HRIS platforms and business processes, preferably within SuccessFactors and related HR/payroll/integration ecosystems.
  • Ability to translate business and functional requirements into thorough, risk-based test coverage.
  • Strong working knowledge of manual testing across functional, integration, regression, system, and end-to-end scenarios.
  • Experience using Azure DevOps or similar tools for work tracking, test case management, execution tracking, and defect lifecycle management.
  • Ability to lead testing efforts across cross-functional teams, balancing strategic oversight with hands-on execution.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate status, risks, and recommendations clearly to both technical and business stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and dependencies in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience supporting UAT coordination, test evidence management, and audit-friendly documentation practices.
  • Familiarity with HRIS integrations, data validation, batch processing, and interface testing is strongly preferred.
  • Exposure to test automation concepts and tools such as Tosca, Playwright, or equivalent is a plus.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in Quality Assurance, with meaningful experience in enterprise applications or HRIS-related testing.
  • 2+ years of experience leading QA efforts, coordinating team execution, or serving as a domain QA lead.
  • Hands-on experience with HR systems testing, including configuration-driven changes, workflow validation, data validation, and integrations.
  • Experience working in Agile delivery environments with cross-functional product, engineering, and business teams.
  • Preferred experience in SuccessFactors, HRIS, Payroll, Benefits, or other people operations technology domains.

The QA Lead - HRIS is expected to strengthen team consistency, improve testing discipline, support business continuity, and raise the overall quality and reliability of HRIS delivery.
