Job Title: Senior Manager, Ecommerce Technology

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Manager, Ecommerce Technology provides senior-level technical leadership and stewardship for the ecommerce technology ecosystem. This role is responsible for shaping technical direction, enforcing engineering standards, and ensuring the long-term scalability, reliability, and integrity of customer-facing digital commerce platforms. The role focuses on technical decision-making, system health, and organizational alignment, enabling teams to build sustainable solutions rather than optimizing for short-term delivery.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide Technical Leadership and Direction Lead the technical direction of ecommerce platforms by applying enterprise architectural standards and guiding teams toward scalable, performant, and secure solutions that support growth, regulatory complexity, and state expansion.
- Own Ecommerce Platform Health and Sustainability Be accountable for the long-term health of ecommerce systems, including performance, reliability, scalability, security, and technical debt, ensuring platforms scale through design rather than reactive intervention.
- Apply and Enforce Architectural Standards Partner with Architecture to ensure ecommerce solutions align with approved patterns, integration contracts, and platform standards, while providing practical guidance that teams can execute consistently.
- Establish Clear System Ownership and Boundaries Define and reinforce clear ownership models across ecommerce components, ensuring each system has accountable teams responsible for build, run, and operational excellence, with clean boundaries between product and platform responsibilities.
- Champion Reliability and Operational Excellence Promote reliability as a first-class concern by driving proactive improvements in availability, performance, resilience, and observability across ecommerce platforms.
- Guide Technical Prioritization and Trade-Offs Provide technical leadership input into product planning and prioritization by advising on platform impact, scalability, risk, and technical debt, and guiding trade-offs between speed, complexity, and long-term sustainability.
- Drive Platform Modernization and Technical Evolution Identify and evaluate opportunities to modernize ecommerce platforms, reduce complexity, and adopt proven technologies, ensuring innovation is pragmatic, measurable, and aligned with long-term platform strategy.
- Elevate Engineering Practices and Standards Establish and reinforce engineering excellence through code quality expectations, automated testing, release discipline, performance optimization, and consistent operational practices.
- Mentor Engineering Leaders and Senior Engineers Provide hands-on technical mentorship to Engineering Leads and Senior Engineers, raising technical maturity, improving decision quality, and fostering a culture of ownership and accountability.
- Manage Cross-Platform Dependencies Guide teams in designing and maintaining clean integration contracts with enterprise systems such as SAP, integration platforms, and data services, minimizing coupling and operational risk.
- Enable Data and Experimentation Capabilities Ensure ecommerce platforms technically support reliable data capture, experimentation, and personalization capabilities in partnership with data, analytics, and marketing teams.
- Communicate Technical Direction and Risk Clearly communicate ecommerce technical direction, platform roadmaps, key risks, and trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring alignment and informed decision-making.
- Balance Scale, Cost, and Performance Guide technical decisions with an awareness of cost efficiency, infrastructure utilization, and operational impact, ensuring platform costs scale responsibly with business growth.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proven ability to lead and influence engineering teams through strong technical leadership, clear standards, and effective cross-functional collaboration
- Demonstrated technical judgment in evaluating architectural trade-offs related to scalability, performance, reliability, security, and long-term maintainability
- Experience applying architectural principles in complex ecommerce environments, designing systems for reuse, clean boundaries, and multi-market scale
- Strong ability to provide technical oversight of production platforms, with a focus on platform health, operational resilience, and risk reduction
- Analytical problem-solver capable of independently assessing complex technical challenges and recommending pragmatic, sustainable solutions
- Business-minded technical leader who can translate business objectives into clear technical direction and communicate decisions and trade-offs effectively
- Broad understanding of modern application ecosystems, including cloud platforms, integrations, APIs, and supporting services
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining focus on long-term platform sustainability
- Bachelor’s degree required or 10+ years of equivalent experience or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience supporting regulated or highly available digital commerce platforms
- Experience with cloud-based ecommerce architectures at scale
WORK HOURS:
- Full-time with flexible hours depending on business needs.
- Must be available to work occasional evenings, weekends for deployments and holidays.
- Ability to travel.
